July 14, 1986. This auction was held by Hayward Auction Company owned
by Robert Hayward, my brother. Items were donated by all the popular
entertainers, both old and new. Proceeds were donated to the
construction of a retirement facility for retired musicians. A special
highlight included a 6 hour show with as many of the entertainers performing
as possible. Robert and I, along with deceased Grand Ole Opry
announcer Grant Turner were emcees for the event. This event required
approximately 6 weeks of board meetings and preparation with the
entertainers and was especially rewarding.
